Rehabilitation
The year 2020 witnessed a qualitative achievement represented by the operation of three electricity transmission stations in Nablus, Ramallah and Hebron, noting that the fourth station in Jenin was operated in 2017. These stations constituted a strategic turning point in building the Palestinian electricity sector system, and ended the suffering that continued for years due to the inability to provide electricity as a result of the practices and restrictions imposed by the Israeli side. Therefore, the operation of these stations comes within PNERA's vision, which is to develop and expand electricity networks to meet the increasing demand for electrical energy resulting from urban expansion and the increase in economic activities. Accordingly, it was necessary to build a Palestinian electric transmission system capable of accommodating energy from all its sources, especially Palestinian sources in the future.
The operation of such stations means switching from medium pressure to high pressure, which will enable us to overcome many difficulties, including addressing the lack of electrical capacity in the governorates, and dispensing with the generators used by some industrial facilities to meet their energy needs; in addition to contributing in part to addressing the electrical deficit in those areas. It will also help provide electricity at reasonable and reduced prices to reflect positively on citizens and provide the possibility of linking energy production projects to the electricity networks, which will contribute to achieving the gradual disengagement from the Israeli side, in addition to enhancing the concept of energy security and providing additional capabilities for citizens and facilities commensurate with the increased demand for electricity at reasonable prices and high quality.
In the same context, the project to operate the Tarqumiya station, funded by the World Bank, came to fill the electrical deficit in the southern region of the West Bank and to raise the electrical capacity to meet the excess energy needs and the development of electrical services for the Palestinian people. That was achieved through building a comprehensive Palestinian national energy system at prices that reflect the real cost of supply and consumption, as well as of high efficiency, quality and reliability that achieve international quality specifications necessary for social development and economic growth.
